Travel to match
Method of Travel: Car
Travelling time: 50mins
Neil and I left Carlisle at 1:00pm travelling on the slow A74, arriving at the ground 50 minutes later. The ground was fairly easy to find, especially with the tall floodlights.
Pre-Match
After a quick walk around the ground for a few photos we headed into the supporters bar. It was a small bar and busy with both home and away fans.
Stadium
Palmerston Park is a great traditional stadium which fantastic flood lights
and a big covered terrace behind one of the goals (called the Portland
Drive Stand). The West Stand has both seating and a small terrace towards
the front, whilst behind the other goal is un-used.
Admission
We sat in the fairly new East Stand which is similar to what you get at
Chester City, Bournemouth, Cheltenham and Kidderminster. It cost £7.00
which was reasonable for a pre-season friendly.
Programme
£1.00 for 8 pages which also covered the Queen pre-season fixture
against Gretna. Extremely poor value for money.
Food and Drink
I had lunch before the match so didn't bother with the delights they had
on offer.
The Game
0-0 and the most boring 0-0 I've probably seen. Nothing more to say!
Home Fans
There was only 657 home fans and we didn't hear anything from them all
afternoon.
Away Fans
The 721 were fairly quiet apart from a few of the younger fans who embarrassed
themselves by trying to think the Queens fans hated CUFC, and the English.
Stewards / Police
There was a few police outside the stadium which was a bit unnecessary,
the stewards were fine.
The Ref
The referee was dreadful, but his performance was the funniest thing that
happened all day.
The Journey Home
Travelling time: 55mins
The referee (thankfully) didn't play any added time, so we were back in the car for 4:50pm although getting back onto the A74 was slow. We arrived home at 5:45pm.
