Travel to match
Method of Travel: Car
Travelling time: 1hrs 30mins
My Dad picked me up in Carlisle at 9:40am and we were parked up at the park and ride by 11:10am. From here it was a few minutes wait and then a 15 minute ride to the ground.
Pre-Match
We had a walk round the stadium (as it was my Dad's first visit) and had
some food we took from home.
Stadium
The Stadium of Light is another boring new stadium in my opinion. It seems
to be near the top of everyone's favourite list though I can't understand
why! The outside is dull and the inside is nothing special and no different
to what you see up and down the country now.
Admission
Sunderland offer excellent value for money at the Stadium of Light, and
£25 got us a seat in the North West Upper Corner. This gave us an
excellent view of the pitch and stadium.
Programme
£3.00 for 84 pages and you'll do well to find a better programme
in the league this season.
Food and Drink
I had brought food from home so I didn't buy anything from the ground.
The Game
The match was very one-sided with Liverpool taking home the deserved three
points. They didn't need to get out of second gear to beat a poor Sunderland
side. Fernando Torres looked different class.
Home Fans
The Sunderland fans were fairly loud in patches but put most of their
energy into shouting abuse at the referee than getting behind the team.
Away Fans
I'm not sure why but there were at least 100 empty seats in the visitors
end, though the ones that were there made good noise and backed there
team through out.
Stewards / Police
No problems from police outside the stadium and the stewards very friendly
inside the ground and were happy for me to take photos.
The Ref
I thought Mark Halsey gave a good account of himself. He certainly wasn't
as bad as the home fans thought he was.
The Journey Home
Travelling time: 1hrs 35mins
Getting onto the bus back to our car was easy and it was extrememly well organised. We were back on the road by 3:05 and stopped at Little Chef on the A69 an hour later for a coffee. Twenty minutes later we were back on the road and home in Carlisle for 5:00pm.
