Travel to match
Method of Travel: Car
Travelling time: 0hrs 2mins
Gillford Park is only a mile from my home so it was only a few minutes in the car.
Pre-Match
I had a walk around the ground to take some photos thinking I had a good
30 minutes to spare before kick-off only to see the teams come out of
the tunnel. The local newspaper had printed the wrong kick-off time!
Stadium
Gillford Park was the former home of Carlisle Rugby League team. There
is a small stand behind one of the goals which is where the food hut is
as well as the changing room facilities. Opposite this stand there is
nothing behind the other goal. A small covered terrace and another covered
stand make us the rest of the ground. The capacity is around 4,000 and
there is also a bar which was open through out.
Admission
It costs £1.00 for adults, however entrance was free with my Carlisle
United season ticket. The club are trying to encourage Carlisle fans to
attend the games when they are not attending the clubs away match.
Programme
£1.00 for 24 pages. A well produced programme with a few interesting
articles and much better than I was anticipating.
Food and Drink
I got a large coffee for only 50p just before half-time. There was plenty
of choice on the menu and all was reasonably priced.
The Game
Gillford Park came from a goal behind to win 3-1 against a strong Heddon
side.
Home Fans
There was only around 35 fans in the stadium so there was no noise from
the home fans, only polite clapping when the goals went in!
Away Fans
There were none!
Stewards / Police
Just like the away fans, they were no where to seen!
The Ref
The referee seemed to have a good game and was communicating with the
players through out.
The Journey Home
Travelling time: 0hrs 2mins
The long drive home (!) went well with very little traffic!
