Travel to match
Method of Travel: Car
Travelling time: 2hrs 5mins
Dave and I left Carlisle at 10:50am and other than a 20 minute delay the journey was ok (despite the torrential rain), arriving at 12:55pm. We parked a mile away from the ground using Tesco as this was free and we had read some bad reports about the area around the ground, but this seemed absolutely fine when we got there.
Pre-Match
After a quick walk around the ground for a few photos we headed into the
Aitken Lounge which is in the Main Stand for a drink. It was free to get
in and we were made to feel very welcome by the locals and they served
a decent pint.
Stadium
I like Firhill- it has some trandition with the Main Stand (although this
is no longer going to be used due to costs), whilst the newer stands are
of a good size which fits that of the club.
Admission
It was £10 to sit behind the goal in the North Stand. The view was
excellent and the facilities were ok as well.
Programme
£1.50 got you a basic 16 page programme which didn't have much reading
in but at least something was produced.
Food and Drink
As we had parked at Tesco we popped in there for a sandwich but I bought
a Scotch pie in the ground for only £1.30.
The Game
0-0 and one of the most boring 0-0 I've seen. We offered very little in
attack and we desperately need a leader out there. With our lack of activity
in the transfer market I suspect we could be in for a struggle this season
coming.
Home Fans
The fans we met in the bar before the game were as friendly as I've met
on my travels- so much better than the attitude you get when you visit
places like Leeds and Millwall. The total crowd of 1,235 was perhaps a
little disappointing however.
Away Fans
There's no official figure yet for the amount of away fans but I'd estimate
350 max. There was little to shout about so the noise was poor.
Stewards / Police
The stewards and police were as friendly as the home fans we met in the
bar- excellent.
The Ref
The referee was dreadful, and seemed to stop the game at every opportunity.
The Journey Home
Travelling time: 1hrs 40mins
After walking back to the car and a toilet stop at McDonalds opposite Tesco we left at 5:15pm arriving home at 6:55pm.
