Travel to match
Method of Travel: Bus
Travelling time: 3hrs 45mins
A full bus left Carlisle at 2pm and the trip down was a good one with no hold-up's or accidents. We picked up some fans at Knutsford Services so had a 15-minute break there at 4:15pm. Using the M6, A5182, A53, A49, A5 and finally the B4380 we pulled up at the ground at 6:00pm.
Pre-Match
I wasn't drinking so I didn't bother going to the pub nearest the ground
so instead had a slow walk around the ground taking plenty of photos.
A gate was open in the West Stand so I popped in and got my first sight
of the inside of the stadium. Plenty of our fans stayed on the bus so
I popped back on until the turnstiles opened at 6:40pm to wait for my
mates to arrive who had driven down from Penrith.
Stadium
The new stadium is like all the rest...dull and lifeless- what a crying shame compared to Gay Meadow. There is no character about the place and although it meets the needs of the club and now has corporate hospitality is it yet another example of no thought being put into it when planning the new development. I can't understand why the club haven't built a bar outside the ground for home and away fans as there is so much room for this and will bring in more fund for the club.
Admission
To sit in the North Stand away end was £16 as I bought this before
the day of the game. For those who paid on the night this raised £2.00
up to £18.00. Leg room was excellent and the noise generated in
the stand was superb.
Programme
Shrewsbury reduced their standard league programme for this cup game and it was a fairly poor 16 pager for £1.00.
Food and Drink
As usual I didn't buy anything in the ground though my mate said the sausage rolls were poor.
The Game
The game was good and Shrewsbury will be disappointed they're not in the draw for the next round. They wasted various opportunities and hit the bar on two occasions but one decent free-kick by our centre-half won the match.
Home Fans
The turnout of home fans was good and they made a decent amount of noise at times.
Away Fans
Like the home fans there was also a decent number of Carlisle fans at the game with 358 in the visitors end- the noise levels were good at times as well.
Stewards / Police
There were very few police at the game and the stewards were quiet other than having a word with those who put their feet on the seats in front of them.
The Ref
Mr Evans had a shocking game for both sides and the free-kick that won us the game was a wrong decision. Very poor through out and liked the sound of his own whistle too much for my liking.
The Journey Home
Travelling time: 3hrs 40mins
Leaving the ground at 9:50pm and heading home via the A5 and M54 without stopping (other than a drop-off at Knutsford Services) we arrived home at 1:30am.
