Travel to match
Method of Travel: Car
Travelling time: 1hrs 30mins
Leaving work early Dave and I headed up to Galashiels on the M6 then the A7. We left at 4.10pm and arrived at 5.40pm which was quicker than what we had expected but the roads had been very quiet.
Pre-Match
The bar at the ground wasn't open and with so long until kick-off we headed
into the town centre and to a fish and chip shop called Crollas. £3.60
got you chips and smoked sausage which was average - I certainly wasn't
as brave as Dave as to eat Haggis!
Stadium
The main stand (well only stand) at Netherdale is what I imagine Eastern
European stadiums to be like - but for the level they play at it is fairly
impressive to be honest. You were allowed to walk around the pitch which
was grassed but had a barrier.
Admission
£5 got you into the game which was very reasonable even though it
was mainly our youth team that was playing.
Programme
£1.00 got you a decent 16 page programme - Gala have always produced
for our fixtures up there so it was good to see that continue. These sold
out before kick-off however so some supporters missed out.
Food and Drink
As I'd eaten the chips earlier I didn't get anything in the ground although
the scotch pies looked good.
The Game
We walked all over Gala in the first half and it could and probably should
have been a bigger margin of victory. Gala made a better fight of it in
the second half though and were unlucky not to get on the score sheet.
Andy Cook got five goals and looked even better than last season.
Home Fans
The Gala fans seemed typical Scots - very friendly and I'll certainly
be trying to get back for another game in the future.
Away Fans
There must have only been around 50 Carlisle fans there but they certainly
enjoyed their night out.
Stewards / Police
There were none.
The Ref
The referee had a decent game in the main although one of his assistants
made quite a few errors.
The Journey Home
Travelling time: 1hr 25mins
Leaving at 9:05pm we were home at 10.30pm as the roads were quiet again.
