Travel to match
Method of Travel: Car
Travelling time: 30mins
Getting to Frenchfields is very simple from Carlisle and despite 50mph sections of the M6 I was at the ground by 7:00pm. Although there is no signs its relatively straight forward to find and parking was free.
Pre-Match
I just walked around the ground and talked to my aunty who does the kit
for the club before meeting some mates who live in the town. Although
they are no groundhoppers and are Carlisle fans they were wanting to see
what the new facilities were like.
Stadium
As can be seen from the photos below the ground is very basic - it has
one main stand with room for perhaps 150 fans which also has the facilities
(changing rooms, tea bar, drinks bar and medical room) in it, whilst the
rest is open to the elements and standing only. There is a small shelter
offered in the stand opposite the main one however. The floodlights seemed
powerful enough too which was always a problem at Southend Road I thought
when I went.
For a club like Penrith it is ideal facilities wise but I struggle to see how they will attract more supporters to the club with it being so far out of town, in an area with no shelter which is going to get battered with the weather, and the fact that they don't plan to offer transport for fans who can't travel by car.
Admission
It was £4.00 which I understand is the normal price for a match
this season. It was good value, especially with how the game turned out.
Programme
A programme was sold at the turnstiles (£2.00 for 40 pages) and
was similar to that of last season.
Food and Drink
I eat before leaving for the game but had a coffee which was good.
The Game
Annan strolled the match winning by a good margin and they were a class
above through out especially their right-sided winger.
Home Fans
The Penrith fans turned out (300 ish in total I would think) - here's
hoping they do once the winter comes!
Away Fans
There were a few Annan fans down but as is normal in un-segreagated stadiums
it was hard to tell who was supporting who.
Stewards / Police
There were no police and the only stewards were at the turnstiles.
The Ref
The referree was good as were his two assistants bar one odd offside decision
where the Penrith player kicked the ball but Annan were flagged as being
offside. A few choice words were said to the young official though by
the players.
The Journey Home
Travelling time: 25mins
With no 50mph sections going northbound I was home at 9:45pm.
