Travel to match
Method of Travel: Car
Travelling time: 1hr 25mins
Dave, Martin and I who all work together left straight from work at 5:05pm and travelling down the M6 and through the outskirts of Lancaster we arrived at Christie Park at 6:30pm.
Pre-Match
We parked on Lancaster Road two minutes walk from the stadium as there
was no restrictions then headed to the chip shop located near the entrance
to the away end which was excellent. Other than a walk around the ground
and into the club shop there wasn't much to do so we headed into the ground.
Stadium
I visited Christie Park three times during the 2004/5 season when we were
in the Conference and it hasn't changed much. The away end is a very shallow
terrace as is the car wash end but there is a decent North Stand behind
the goal which houses the more vocal home support. The Main Stand reminded
me of that at Cheltenham Town which also has a section for away fans who
want to sit.
Admission
It was only £10 to stand behind the goal in the Umbro away end -
it isn't the best place to get an atmosphere going but at least it is
sheltered.
Programme
Credit to Morecambe for producing a standard league programme for this
when most clubs sell slimmer versions. It was £3.00 for 68 pages
which had some good articles in.
Food and Drink
The sausage and chips before the game was enough for me so I didn't try
one of the pies which is rated as one of the best in the country. I'm
hopefully going back before the stadium gets knocked down at the end of
the season so I'll probably try one then.
The Game
A draw was probably a fair result but we were poor through out but fortunately
won on penalties.
Home Fans
The home crowd were fairly quiet and low in numbers as is the norm for
this stage of the competition.
Away Fans
645 fans travelled which was probably more than I expected but their wasn't
much support.
Stewards / Police
Excellent as they always have been at Morecambe.
The Ref
Average.
The Journey Home
Travelling time: 1hr 10mins
It was very easy to get back onto the M6 after the game - leaving at 9:55pm we were back in Carlisle at 11:05pm.
