Travel to match
Method of Travel: Car
Travelling time: 1hr 30mins
Dave, Samantha and I left Carlisle after work at 4:50pm and went straight to Morecambe arriving at 6:20pm. The weather was awful on the way down with really heavy rain and thunder and lightening.
Pre-Match
As we had done on our last visit a few weeks ago we parked on Lancaster Road opposite the Atkinsons' chip shop just by the entrance
to the away end and the food was as good as last time. Due to the pouring rain we then went into the ground.
Stadium
Unsurprisingly Christie Park hasn't changed from a few weeks ago! The away end is a very shallow
terrace as is the car wash end but there is a decent North Stand behind
the goal which houses the more vocal home support. The Main Stand reminded
me of that at Cheltenham Town which also has a section for away fans who
want to sit.
Admission
It was £13 to stand behind the goal in the Umbro away end which was fairly full.
Programme
As my previous visit for the JPT match Morecambe produced a standard league
programme for the game costing £3.00 for 68 pages.
Food and Drink
I had sausage and chips before the game so didn't try one of the pies from inside the ground which is rated as one of the best in the country. I'm
going back again before the stadium gets knocked down at the end of
the season so I'll have to try one then.
The Game
The game was very poor - we got an early goal and that was as exciting as it got.
Home Fans
As I've found on all my previous visits to Christie Park the home crowd were quiet.
Away Fans
A decent 1,107 fans travelled although a few hundred didn't make kick-off and therefore missed the early goal. Many fans bought tickets in advance but they had to queue at the same turnstile as those who were paying on the night which isn't really good enough.
Stewards / Police
Excellent as they always have been at Morecambe.
The Ref
The referee was ok but he didn't let game flow as much as he could have.
The Journey Home
Travelling time: 1hrs 10mins
Getting away from the ground is very easy and leaving at 9:45pm we were home at 11:00pm.
