Travel to match
Method of Travel: Train
Travelling time: 4hrs 35mins
A group of around 25 of us left Carlisle station on the 7:46am train to London Euston and although the train was slightly late arriving at 11:30am it was a quicker way to travel than the normal supporters bus especially as the last stop before London was Warrington Bank Quay.
After meeting up with some friends in Central London we completed the last leg of the trip by getting the 1:37pm over ground train from Waterloo to Brentford arriving at 2:06pm.
Pre-Match
We travelled from Euston to Waterloo using the Northern line to meet a
friend who then said he knew a good pub to go to only round the corner.
After nearly 30 minutes of walking in pouring rain we ended up at the
Lord of the Mall Weatherspoons pub which turned out to be just round the
corner from Charing Cross tube station which we'd passed through previously!
A quick pint in there then we headed back to Waterloo on the tube to head
for the match.
Stadium
I like Griffin Park - its very compact, traditional and each stand is
unique. There is little to see outside as it is tightly packed into the
surrounding houses.
Admission
It was £21.00 to sit in the Brook Road stand. The view was excellent
and the atmosphere would be good with a decent following. At around 6ft
I did find the leg room extremely poor though.
Programme
£3.00 got you 68 pages and it was a fairly decent read.
Food and Drink
I bought a burger at the ground which was absolutely dreadful and well overpriced.
The Game
The match wasn't particularly good and although we started strongly we
were easily beaten.
Home Fans
The Brentford fans made quite a bit of noise when they did sign - it would be a good to hear them with the ground full or at a derby match.
Away Fans
A very respectable 514 fans were in the away end - although the atmosphere wasn't the best.
Stewards / Police
There was no problems with stewards or police in or around the ground.
The Ref
The referee was of the usual standard at this left - rubbish.
The Journey Home
Travelling time: 4hrs 30mins
After the game we headed straight back to Brentford over ground station and got the Euston via Waterloo in time for some food before the 6:30pm train back to Carlisle. The train was packed with plenty of shopper and football fans from Chelsea, Tottenham as well as a load of Manchester United and Liverpool fans later up the country and we ended up arriving 35 minutes late arriving back at 10.10pm.
