Travel to match
Method of Travel: Car
Travelling time: 1hr 30mins
We left Carlisle at 10:35am to make the short journey to Bolton arriving at 12:05pm. The roads were very quiet through out and with the Reebok Stadium being right by the motorway it is easy to find and get to from Cumbria.
Pre-Match
We parked up at the first car park after going onto Lostock Lane which only cost £3.00. Speaking to the parking attendants they said food would be served at The Beehive pub next to the Chorley New Road roundabout further up the hill. Sadly food wasn't and the door men was extremely rude and unhelpful in advising us of where we would get something so we ended up heading back down the hill to Tesco right next to the stadium.
Stadium
The Reebok is one of the better new stadiums in the country.
Admission
Prices for the cup tie had been reduced to only £12 which was a bargain. As we travelled with a Sheffield United fan we obviously sat in the away end which had sold out days before the game. The view from the upper tier was superb and it was a decent atmosphere in there.
Programme
Bolton reduced the price and number of pages for this game down to £2.00
for 52 pages. As I've found over the years it is still not very good!
Food and Drink
Although I didn't eat inside the ground the prices seemed very reasonable especially for a Premiership club with my pint only costing £2.80. The food was certainly a lot cheaper than at Brentford a week earlier!
The Game
The match was very poor with a lack of quality from both sides. Sheffield United only got one shot on target all game and that was late on and didn't threaten at all. Bolton got two goals in the second half and run out easy winners in the end but I'd expect them to continue to struggle based on that performance; and if Sheffield United were to somehow get promoted they'd be straight back down without major investment.
Home Fans
There would have only been around 9,000 Bolton fans and they were fairly
quiet bar a few hundred near to the away end.
Away Fans
Around 5,500 Sheffield United fans were behind the goal and they made good noise at the start of the game but got quieter the longer the match went on.
Stewards / Police
The stewards were very lenient with some fans - for some of the stick they got most would have thrown someone out.
The Ref
The referee wasn't the best to be honest.
The Journey Home
Travelling time: 1hr 35mins
Although it took around ten minutes to get back onto the motorway the journey home didn't take long getting back to Carlisle at 6:45pm.
