Sunderland Ground Tour
Date: Saturday 1st September 2001
Team: Sunderland
Stadium: The Stadium of Light
I was living in Newcastle-upon-Tyne so I managed to visit Sunderland for a match but with a free weekend I booked on one of the ground tours.
The
tour was excellent and took well over an hour to complete. It went around
all parts of the stadium including the dressing rooms, media facilities,
and the boardroom. It was great value for money and with seeing parts
of the stadium you wouldn't normally I would fully recommend it.
I'm sure if you've read reports from this site you'll realise I'm not a fan of new stadiums and although the SOL can generate a decent atmosphere I fail to see why it comes out so highly when fans talk about their favourites grounds.
The exterior is one of the most boring that I've seen with only the main stand having any character. The concourses seem basic although in all my visits I've yet to have had a poor view of the game.
